Pakenham Roman fort

09Pakenham

The cropmark of this triple-ditched Roman fort was first recognized from the air in 1945. It was partly excavated 1984–5 in advance of the Ixworth Bypass and is thought to have been established after the suppression of the revolt by Boudica, the Icenian queen, around 60/61.
