Dallinghoo hoard
The hoard of 840 gold coins discovered here in 2008 is the largest find of Iron Age coins in Britain since the 19th century. Mainly Freckenham-type staters (named after another Suffolk hoard) produced by the Iceni tribe between 20 BC and AD 15. This hoard, a massive 4.58kg of gold, may represent an Icenian royal treasury abandoned perhaps after an invasion by their southern neighbours, the Trinovantes tribe, centred on Colchester.
