The Institute’s library was purchased in 1974 by Suffolk County Council and has been housed since then at the Suffolk Record Office, Raingate Street, Bury St Edmunds. Unique material was incorporated on the shelves with the Local Studies stock (though still with SIAH bookplates) while subscriptions to archaeological journals and record publications were taken over and are still maintained.

In addition to the reference side of the library, it also contains lending stock. This consists of duplicates of many of the ‘usual suspects’ of Suffolk Local Studies: a full set of the Proceedings, the ‘Green Books’, SRS volumes, Copinger’s Manors, West Suffolk Illustrated, East Anglian Notes and Queries New Series.

These titles are all available for loan by members of the Institute. The books are shelved together – just ask at the searchroom counter. All the borrower has to do is produce evidence of membership and sign the borrowers’ register. Please remember to sign out any books that you borrow and to return them within a reasonable time.

In the following list, materials available for loan are starred.
