Sutton Hoo

The famous Anglo-Saxon ship burial was excavated in 1939, on the eve of the Second World War. The burial is thought to be that of King Rædwald of the East Angles, who died c. 625.

The Sutton Hoo finds are now a major attraction in the British Museum:
