The Staffordshire Hoard is the largest ‘treasure’ ever found for the early Anglo-Saxon period.
Discovered by a metal detectorist near Lichfield, in July 2009, it contains a unique combination of military and church objects, dating c. 570–c. 650 AD.
The incredible finds asks critical questions: why and how was it brought together at the heart of one of England’s greatest kingdoms ― Mercia ― and who could have buried it?
